Paying a visit to the little-known colonial town of Morelia, it delves into the country's ancient underpinnings while focusing on the Mexican people of today. Southern Mexico- A Portrait- Highlighting the region's history, food and art, the film profiles the Indigenous cities of Oaxaca and San Cristobel de las Casas. It examines ancient Mayan culture via the dramatic ruin site of Palenque and explores Mexico's Pacific coastal port of Puerto Escondido, or "hidden port" in Spanish.
